Raleigh, N.C. — Friday morning started cool, with temperatures in the low 40s, but the real cold weather is coming tonight, when temps tumble into the 20s for a hard freeze.
“It’s cuddle weather,” said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. The winter temps have returned just in time for Valentine’s Day.
But it won’t feel like winter for too long.
After some record and near-record highs on Thursday (it was 81 in Fayetteville), we can expect a hard freeze Friday night and into Saturday morning and another cold Saturday night before temps begin to rise again.
Sunshine will raise Valentine’s Day temps to around 50 before a hard freeze hits the area Friday night.
Temperatures in the Triangle Friday night will be in the 20s.
“We’ll see two quick days of winter before it warms back into the 60s on Sunday,” WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.
Saturday will be warmer but Saturday night will be at or near freezing again. Fans of warmer weather will be pleased to know that the cold weather this weekend will be very brief, and spring-like temperatures will be back next week.
